Shipping electrical stuff abroad

People have needs to send all kinds of things that pose some kind of problem, and worry that it will get stolen, broken, wet or otherwise damaged in transit. After all, it has happened-and we have all read stories about it.

1) Very valuable items

Especially very small items, or easily damaged artwork or antiques

Q: What about sending small valuable items abroad?

Take the case of a highly valuable gold coin purchased on eBay by a buyer abroad. It is small AND valuable and though it will fit into a small packet for an air freight courier it will also easily fit into someone’s pocket and could disappear. Of course, there are reputable courier services and you can insure the item for its full value, and that is one option. Another suggestion is to pack it carefully in a larger and less obvious box and use a recommended secure shipping company.

Q: What about sending electrical items to the USA?

There are companies that specialise in shipping to USA such items as electrical and appliances who will have the expertise to know how to pack and protect the items. It is also important that all paperwork for customs both in the UK and USA are sorted by the company and door to door delivery included in the price.

2) Fragile items – particularly very large or very small fragile items

Q: What about sending an expensive and very fragile item?

I hope you have this insured! In this case it is better to get at least three companies to quote you on the shipping charges – and explain how they pack the item to protect it in transit. Find out whether the company will use road and rail or road and sea freight – and how many on-and-off moves your display case will be subject too. (Obviously the fewer the better)
